If you mention "Ballet Class", most people think of little girls dressed in pink tutus leaping around the ballet studio. It may never occur to most that ballet for adults is a highly effective form of exercise for a range of body shapes, sizes, varying fitness levels and ages. Balletcise is quite unlike any other form of exercise it is a complete discipline involving the body, mind and creative expression of the individual. It is an art form and discipline where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of the music and enter another world for an hour or two whilst still enjoying the body benefits.
AND we have a great fun and friendly atmosphere in the class!
What to expect from your first classThe class will begin with a gentle warm-up and stretch, followed by 35 to 40 minutes at the barre, 10 to 15 minutes of centre work, ending with a cool down and stretch.
Ballet barre work is designed to warm-up up the body progressively through a series of choreographed exercises; it lengthens, strengthens and stretches you throughout. It not only works the body but the mind too, as you concentrate on coordination and technique.
Centre work builds on the barre exercises putting simple steps together with poise and grace, leaps and pirouettes will only be added upon your request!
Wear comfortable clothing to allow freedom of movement and layers which you can add or remove as the class progresses. No leotards necessary, unless of course you wish! Remember to bring a water bottle.
Ballet shoes can be purchased from Louise, just place an order at your first class and in the meantime wear socks for barre work and bare feet for centre work. Alternatively, you can order dancewear from www.dancedirect.co.uk or www.porselli.co.uk amongst other internet dancewear sites.
It is advisable to wear thin socks under the ballet shoes. Low pump socksare particularly suitable for wearing under ballet shoes; they can be purchased from most clothes shops or supermarkets.
About Louise GouldI am a Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) trained and registered ballet teacher (RTS). I have danced for over 28 years, to an advanced standard and began teaching in 2002. In 2007 I started teaching Balletcise and have been overwhelmed by its popularity and success. It appears that the mix of toning, stretching and strengthening your body gracefully and musically is the key with particular attention to improving core stability.
I teach ladies who have never danced a step in their lives before, through to ladies who attended ballet classes as a child. The classes are designed to accommodate the needs and ability of the individual to allow the correct classical technique and form to develop.
Classes are back on the timetable at Wildmoor Spa from Monday 7th September and for expert tuition at £3.50 per session (non-members £5.50), it’s a very worthwhile investment (paid on a week to week basis):
Monday Lunchtimes at 12.45-2.15pm and Wednesday Mornings – 9.30-10.30am
To book into a class or if you have any concerns about starting ‘Balletcise’ please do not hesitate to call Louise on 07724 660 831
Ballet is a great exercise and fun to do. It takes your full concentration and all other thoughts disappear. I like the way it tones you in a subtle way and makes you more supple. Louise, our teacher, is very patient and never shouts at us. It makes for a very relaxed and focussed class. Long may it continue! !

A thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring ballet workout that delivers all of the physical benefits of a demanding gym session and none of the monotony. All exercises are beautifully put together and Louise's helpful instruction is first class. An absolute joy from start to finish!...My next class can't come soon enough!

I look forward to my ballet class twice a week, it is my ‘me’ time when I am able to forget everything else, to enjoy some exercise that is musical and gentle. It is the only exercise I’ve ever found that I enjoy as much and actually look forward to doing!

What would I say about my ladies ballet class? I love it! In fact I said that after my first lesson and have thought it after every lesson over the last 2 years.
I am a typical busy working mum, I really enjoy most sports and I am always listening to music. I have tried virtually every sport, including hockey, netball, tennis etc but none of these achieve the same level of enjoyment as ballet does for me.
I remember when I saw the notice advertising ladies ballet it appealed to me instantly because I could combine exercise with music and dance. Oh my goodness it is so much more than that, it combines physical strength, poise, elegance, balance and co-ordination. It stimulates mind as you have to concentrate on your feet, legs/core, back, shoulders, head, all in different ways and at different times.
The hours fly by every week, you quiet literally do not have time to think of anything else, you are concentrating so hard on combining all the skills needed. I love it!
